Introduction

Dom
Welcome back to Making Media. Our guest this week is CBS Sports writer, Kyle Porter. Kyle writes and podcasts about golf for CBS, and he has done since 2012. Like many of our guests, he was an outsider in the media world when he first started. He didn't go to journalism school but he has a passion for writing and a passion for sports. And he's carved out a strong following by developing his own unique tone of voice.

In 2021, Kyle wrote his first book called Normal Sport, which is borne out of a running joke with his audience about the absurdities of golf. He has now written and self-published three books, and he writes a newsletter under the same branding.

Even if you're not a golf fan, there are so many interesting areas to explore about media with Kyle, from the rise of independent publishers like our friends at No Laying Up, working within a big media business like CBS, covering live sports and the process of creating content independently. He has a lived experience of the full spectrum. I hope you enjoy this discussion with the great Kyle Porter.
