How to Start a Podcast

Matt Reustle and Dom Cooke are CEO and Head of Content at Colossus. We cover everything you need to know about starting a podcast, from hardware to software choices, and how to pick the right subject for your show.

This episode is brought to you by:

Scribe. Scribe is the presenting sponsor of this episode of Making Media and the magic behind the Colossus transcripts. One of the best decisions we made at Colossus was transcribing all of our audio into a searchable transcript library. We had been using another provider up until the summer of 2022 but we were constantly having issues with accuracy if our audio was just the slightest bit impaired. Whether it's training sessions, internal Q&As, or for media purposes, the value of transcripts is huge. And we are not alone. Scribe is the transcription service that powers all of S&P Global - like CapIQ - and the client list includes our friends at Tegus. How to Start a Podcast

Introduction

Matt
All right, Dom. This is a little bit of a special flavor of episode here. We are creating a conversation about something that we are commonly asked about. And it's a conversation that we often have with many individuals. We figured the best way to do this would be to have this conversation between ourselves, distribute it broadly and hopefully, it acts as a public good for others looking to do something. And as always, we're here for the follow-up questions.

That big question is what do I need to start a podcast. So the format of this episode, we're going to do this conversation, run through the check list of things. There's also going to be very detailed show notes. If you already have a podcast, you might want to skip forward, look at the topics of conversation that we're covering, there's also going to be a detailed transcript.
