Carbon Removal

Introduction

Patrick
This week and next, we will break down the two biggest levers we have in the fight against climate change, carbon reduction and carbon removal. Today, we'll focus on carbon removal. To break down where we stand and what needs to be done, I'm joined by Nan Ransohoff.

Nan is the Head of Climate at Stripe and also leads Frontier, which is an advanced market commitment of some $1 billion to kick-start a market for carbon removal solutions. We discussed the broad climate picture, the state of technology today and the potential for good if we can scale up low carbon energy sources. Please enjoy this primer on carbon removal.

The State of Global Carbon and Emissions

Patrick
So, Nan, I think the appropriate place to start is very high level with the basic picture of carbon in the atmosphere, sources of supply, sources of demand, just level set with us for like what exists today so that we can talk about all the work that you're doing at Stripe, working on climate, but I think we need to just lay the groundwork to begin. What is the picture of global climate today as it relates to human-generated carbon?
