Lessons from a Young Investor Turned Operator

Introduction

Rick
Our teacher today is Jan Mohr, the investor-turned-operator, who is currently CEO of CHAPTERS Group, a publicly traded holding company building Europe's home for mission-critical businesses. At just 33, Jan is actually closer in age to our students than he is to our typical guest. But rest assured, he has already traveled well up the compounding curve and has a great deal of wisdom and lessons to share.

Perhaps what interests us the most about Jan is just how quickly he's evolving as he follows his ferocious curiosity and is fueled by what seems like a boundless energy. Consider that by 25, he had already launched a thriving investment firm, JMX Capital that was backed by some of the best endowment and family office LPs in the world.

Fast forward just another seven years and Jan was pivoting again, this time to take the CEO reins of his largest portfolio holding, with a daring ambition to build a Baby Berkshire in his homeland of Germany. This class is, first and foremost, about a young aspiring value investor who embodies a fascinating combination of German discipline and sensibility with a more American risk-taking and entrepreneurial spirit on his quest to continue reimagining the art of what's possible in life and career.
