The Cost of Ego

What's the real game you're playing with your money? “Psychology of Money” author Morgan Housel joins Glue Guys to talk about the importance of running your own race. He engages Ravi, Shane, and Alex on the topic of ego and how it plays a leading role in wealth dynamics. From pro athlete salaries to the “keeping up with the Joneses” mindset to even handling your own money (spoiler: there is no universal right way), the Glue Guys let Morgan peel back the layers. Is there a perfect balance between confidence and humility? Does a mix of the two really even matter? Morgan gives his take on the real keys to happiness.

Introduction

Ravi
Today we have my friend, Morgan Housel. For those of you that don't know Morgan, he is a brilliant author and a great friend. He has written multiple books. He has an amazing blog that I can give him the high compliment of: I have never read something that Morgan has written that I haven't liked, which is a crazy thing to say, but every single thing you've written I really like. And it's like required reading for me.

And my favorite thing, if I had to choose one, was The Psychology of Money. Shane, I can't remember. Did you give it to me or did I give it to you?

Shane
We might have given it to each other.

Alex
There are so many things in that that, like, again, and it actually reminded me of what you said, Ravi, when you were talking about, like, you try to be the mirror for people, right? And you talk about that a lot, and actually that's really great. But, like, the book actually was kind of a giant mirror for me.
