Lessons from an Investor-Teacher Legend

Introduction

Rick
Our teacher today is Harvard Business School legend, André Perold. Part of our vision for Art of Investing is to shine a light on some of the world's leading teachers, not hacks like me and Paul, but real PhD-wielding academics.

And if there were a Mount Rushmore for investing faculty, I'm not sure who the other 3 would be, but without question, André's handsome mug would be on it.

Born and raised in South Africa, André taught at HBS for over 30 years, earning numerous awards for both his research and teaching excellence. And he was even voted by the student body as the school's most outstanding professor in a Business Week survey.

If you were an aspiring investor attending HBS, André's class felt like the only class that mattered. Of course, when I showed up there nearly 20 years ago, I found out that André would be on sabbatical to cofound HighVista Strategies, a now leading investment firm with approximately $10 billion of AUM and focused on investing in structurally inefficient opportunities across both public and private markets.
